My Thoughts
If you’re long-time followers of mine, you’ve possibly heard of Lali A. Love and Sathya Achia — and this book reminds me of a mishmash of their two worlds. The mythical, good vs. evil, high-stakes, spiritual side of Lali’s work, and the rich Indian heritage and storytelling similar to Sathya’s work. And I don’t mean this in a derivative way — I’m just impressed to catch a comp – I’m usually horrible at it! But if you enjoyed their work from previous discussions of mine, you’ll love this story.
It’s a fast-paced, battle-heavy, spiritually enriched tale set between worlds. This amazing story is steeped in Indian religious traditions and mythology, and is an absolutely delightful and beautiful read.
The main character, Cha’nir, is an absolutely beautiful soul, and the other good guys are also fabulous. Equally, the bad guys are astonishingly evil – always the mark of a great writer. Being able to write both types of characters well is a great skill.
The author has crafted this world so beautifully and done so without dumping large chunks of information — instead folding the information into the story in manageable pieces. Even though much of this world is mythical in nature, I still found it to be very atmospheric, drawing me into the story and making me feel as if I were literally there with the characters.

I absolutely LOVE to learn about other cultures while reading. I think it’s one of my favorite things about reading. These days, I think I rarely read books set in my own country, especially ones set in the modern day.
I really enjoy reading books set in the UK and Ireland. I’ve also increasingly read books set in India, the Middle East, and Africa in the past few years, and I have really enjoyed them. Most cultures I’m not incredibly familiar with are really interesting to me.
About the Author
GURD CHAHAL was born in India and raised in the UK since 1966. In India he grew up in a terraced mud-house village without electricity or running water, where elders and traveling sages told stories under the stars. Those nights shaped his imagination. Arriving in Birmingham at eight years old, he experienced the challenges of 1960s Britain—racism, community struggles, and the quiet strength of women who held families together. A lifelong entrepreneur and music promoter turned writer, Gurd now brings that lived experience to modern mythological fiction—bridging ancient wisdom with today’s search for identity, courage, and hope. Besides writing, he has spent most of his life connecting communities. He created Chahalco, one of the largest live music networks in the UK, discovering and nurturing artists who went on to define today’s culturally diverse music scene. He is also a creative healthcare professional, an entrepreneur who, with his wife established the UK’s first drive-thru and in-store pharmacies, and a volunteer board member on a major UK educational charity.
