Copy editing focuses on grammar, spelling, language, and punctuation. It does not focus on the story, but I will point out any major plot holes or issues if they come up.

Line Editing

Includes everything copy editing does, but also includes suggestions to better convey what the author is trying to say.

Alpha/Beta Reading

These are early (alpha) or late (beta) readings in the process. It focuses on the overall picture, plot, character arcs, story development, etc. It is similar to developmental editing, but doesn’t involve editing. It is similar to how a reader would read the story, only the author would receive direct, clear feedback. This service includes a single reading of your manuscript along with a report.

Proofreading

Proofreading is the final read through after all other editing is complete. It is a final run to check for typos, grammatical errors, and other such mistakes before sending it to the publisher or to print. This includes one round of revisions to make sure the manuscript is ready for publication.

Sensitivity Reading

A sensitivity reading is similar to an alpha or beta reading, but it specifically focuses on avoiding offensive content, stereotypes, and biases in the manuscript. This is usually done when the author has included life experiences they have not lived and would like the perspective of someone who has. I have several perspectives that could be useful in this regard, which I have listed below.

Important Information

  • During booking, we will discuss availability and turnaround time.
  • A free 1,000-word sample edit will be provided for all new clients to ensure that styles match.
  • All edits will be made as suggestions in Google Docs unless otherwise requested by the client.
  • All edits will be done using the Chicago Manual of Style as reference and using American English.
  • A deposit is due at the time of booking for all services. The rest of your balance will be due upon completion of the contract.
  • Payments are currently accepted through Paypal and CashApp.
  • All services include at least one chat, which can be done as a video call, voice call, or instant messaging/text experience. As a neurodivergent individual, I know being comfortable is important, and I want you to be comfortable communicating with me.
  • If you need more than one type of editing, we can work on developing a package discount.
  • The size of the manuscript will dictate the turnaround time of the job. For example, an 80,000-word book will take 10 to 14 days depending on specific services and density of the text.
