If you enjoy fast-paced legal thrillers with twists and turns that keep you guessing, you’ll love Teresa Burrell’s Advocate series. This is the third installment and they keep getting better and more intense.
About the Book
Sabre Orin Brown’s clients keep disappearing. With seemingly no connection between the cases, Sabre enlists the help of her southern PI friend, JP, and her best friend, Bob, to find each of them–before it’s too late. In her race against the clock, Sabre must determine whether contemporary horrors are being buried in the shadow of dark traditions–or if it’s something else at work. A conspiracy years in the making, secrets hidden for decades, and the twisted work of a mysterious society have all come together in the ultimate test of the strength of Sabre’s conviction.
My Thoughts
This series is really hard! I love it because it is so good! But, as a parent, it is difficult to read! I have said before that readers are masochistic, and this proves that for me. This one was harder than the first two, and I can only imagine they will get darker and more intense. But the author’s engaging writing style keeps me glued to the page!
I always include content warnings in my reviews (slide 5), because I believe as a mental health advocate they can be useful. They can also be harmful to some, so be forewarned that some included are some of those.
Sabre is as interesting of a character as her unique name, and I look forward to learning more about her and seeing her grow alongside her cast of supporting characters. Whether a romance grows between her and a certain cowboy who has won me over with his colloquialisms that remind me of my Momma, I still love their relationship. And the sibling-like relationship she has with Bob is adorable. I can’t wait to see what we learn about her “real” brother Ron at some point as well!
The beautiful compassion that all three of our MCs have for the children entrusted to them is a light shining in contrast to the horrible darkness that is the depravity of the criminal storyline. Decades of secrets come to a head to pull more than one family’s worth of innocent children into danger and if I had to have someone fighting for my children in this horrible situation, I sure hope it would be someone like Sabre, Bob, and/or JP. It makes me feel even better to know that they are based on the author’s own experience. Though, less good to know some of the stories might be as well.
