New Book Gives You “Me Power”
Do you sometimes feel powerless? If so, LaNysha T. Adams wants to teach you all about your “Me Power.”
About the Book
“Who do you want to be?”
We’ve all heard or asked this question before, yet few of us answer it because identity is not fixed, but ever-expanding as we move through life.
Dr. LaNysha Tufuga Adams, Ivy-League educated linguist and founder of award-winning education consultancy Edlinguist Solutions, redefines “empowerment” and challenges others to not only answer this question, but to put the answer(s) into action.
Me Power redefines empowerment, encouraging us to tap into our limitless flow of possibility while connecting with others. No matter the barriers, Me Power pushes us to activate the best of who we are and dismiss the possibility that power is something we can authorize, give away, or take from others.
Embracing this book is the first step to activating your Me Power.
So what are you waiting for?
My Thoughts
This book gives some fantastic examples of embracing your “Me Power,” which is a nice way of saying your self-empowerment. I really enjoyed the concept, and I appreciated the raw, deep place the author came from with her journey. She shared some cutting, deep stories of her own with us and that took a lot of her own “Me Power.” She also shared some amazing stories of people overcoming some tremendous obstacles and complicated backgrounds. I wish the author had touched on challenges those with mental illness or neuroatypicalities might face using this structure. As someone with adult diagnosed ADHD and autism, and anxiety, I see great value in this system, but I also see some challenges as well.
The book outlines five principles to finding your ME Power:
- Embrace your barriers.
- Focus on your strengths.
- Speak for your life.
- Choose your guide.
- Ritualize your reflection.
The author then goes into great detail about each, highlighting inspirational examples of individuals who exemplify these values. My favorite story involved her own grandfather, a firecracker of a fellow, right until the end. This book redefines the idea of empowerment, giving the power back to individuals, and helping us understand how to empower ourselves. It emphasises the importance of all types of education, not just that found within the walls of learning. And it encourages us to recognize that “we are our greatest assets” taking the power away from those that would intimidate us.
I received a gifted copy of the book as a part of Love Books Tours. It has not impacted my review.
Who’s It For?
If you’re feeling a little stuck, and in need of a boost to your power – for your personal or professional life – this book might be for you. I do activism work in my community, and recently engaged in a training that covered similar topics. This book helped cement some ideas that I learned, and I like that I’ll have it to reference.
