If you’re looking for a steamy, angsty romance, this is a good one to grab.

About the Book

Some call it love at first sight; he calls it trouble.
He swore never to fall for anyone again … so why can’t he stay away from her?

Gabriel Beaumont has one rule when it comes to dating—don’t. After he found himself on the wrong end of love once, he swore to never let it happen again. And in the three years since he moved to Paris to open an art gallery, it’s suited him just fine.

Until her.

From the moment Juliet Chandler crashed into his life, she upended his entire world. She’s a beautiful aspiring writer from New York who left her Big Law job to attend a summer institute in Paris, and he’s happy to be her guide around the city if it means spending time with her.

There’s just one problem. He can’t keep his eyes—or his hands—off her.

She’s the falling-in-love type, and he doesn’t do relationships. But with summer coming to an end, he’ll do anything to keep her.

Even if it means facing the life he left behind.

My Thoughts

This one is delightfully romantic, spicy, and heartbreaking – so if that sounds like a good time grab it up now! If you’re up for a gentle love story with no drama, this isn’t it. But if you’re up for one to wreck you – just a bit – this will take you on a good little ride (pun not intended – probably).

For me, the spice was more than I usually like – but for most of the book community these days it was probably three peppers, maybe four? I’m not sure. It certainly made me blush. But it was also less silly than a lot of spicy scenes I’ve read. I appreciated the mature wording and descriptions. I frequently just feel silly reading spice – like does anyone actually use or think those words? Maybe – I’m not judging – but reading it ends up making me feel weird. This didn’t. So, do with that what you will.

Also, while love at first sight isn’t my favorite trope, this was a really cute one. Even though it was love at first sight, it didn’t feel contrived or “too convenient.” They had to work for it, they had to work through some things. And it felt like their relationships still had to grow. The big problem I usually have with the trope is that they’re normally just perfectly compatible with no problems. Juliet and Gabriel still had some issues to work out and I really appreciated that.

I loved both the main characters (I know shocker!!) and the side characters. James and Nora were adorable! Juliet’s school friends were super cute, and I really liked the professor. I did feel like there were a few unresolved things at the end – the biggest one was the professor’s strange reaction to Lily. I was really hoping that got resolved and was very frustrated when it didn’t. Maybe the author can help me out because that left me as frustrated as Gabriel on the train to Versailles (winky face).

I really enjoyed the book, even if it went a little above my spice comfort level, and would love to see more about the characters in this one! I’m greedy like that, I always love to see more about characters I enjoy! And as a fellow writer, Paris is a fantastic setting for inspiration! I spent a week in Paris writing under the Eiffel Tower and strolling through the sights of Paris. Gorgeous backdrop for writers, artists, and any creators!

I am so grateful to the author and Love Books Tours for including me on this tour! I look forward to reading more by the author in the future.

About the Author

Ellie Jennings is a lawyer-turned-romance author who lives in the Windy City with her wisecracking husband and high-school sweetheart. She’s been reading romance since before she probably should have and can usually be found somewhere swooning over a fictional character’s happily ever after. When she’s not writing steamy, witty love stories with dirty-talking, passionate heroes and strong, lovable heroines, she’s either baking something sweet, jamming out to a good country song, or planning her next adventure. If you love steamy romance, heartfelt characters, and the City of Love, you’re in the right place.
