What a wild adventure! While quite a bit different than the first, it’s a great follow-up! And I can’t wait to read more!

About the Book

The battle for the fate of Earth has only begun as Detective Inspector Dave Barnes and his team must fight against a malevolent AI hell-bent on dominating multiple worlds.

With Terra, a counter-Earth in a parallel dimension, under its control, the tyrannical AI known as Oracle continues her relentless march across the multiverse‚ and now she holds Earth Prime in her sights.
While Dave Barnes and members of The Castle battle to stop the dangerous AI from succeeding in her invasion, all is not lost on Terra, where a group of resistance fighters is marshaling their forces to free those who have been assimilated as mindless foot soldiers.

With conflict waging on both worlds and Oracle tightening her grip, hope comes from an unlikely source when the duplicitous Colonel David Barnes offers information that could prove vital. But can this master of deception be trusted to aid in the fight for two worlds?

As Oracle becomes increasingly unhinged, and with the fate of humanity at stake, it becomes clear to those who resist that the AI will stop at nothing to rule the multiverse. In a desperate struggle to survive, can those on opposite sides unite in a mission to save two worlds? And, with the stakes so high, will all who fight live to see freedom from Oracle’s reign of terror?

My Thoughts

I expected this book to pick up where Book 1 left off, and it did, eventually. But it started in the past and jumped around in time and interdimensional space (which it did last time because of traveling between different Earths). So, it could be a little confusing to keep up with when and where I was. Also, I mentioned last time that, like many science fiction books, this one does suffer a little from having too many characters. Sci-fi/fantasy always seems to need way more characters than other genres. But as I’m going through, none of them seem superfluous, so it’s only a complaint that my brain has limits!

Otherwise, the world (worlds?) that the author has built is so complex and wonderful. Well, wonderful might not be the best word, but well built. I didn’t feel like it was all dumped on me at once, but it was solidly described and built throughout the first book and this one. The characters had time to grow, except for when they clearly weren’t meant to – such as in certain cases where storylines were rushed but were revealed to be manipulated by others later. And that is extra brilliant writing! Doing things that seem incongruous with the story but then actually using them to build storylines is fantastic!

I’ve really enjoyed this series. A cyber entity spearheads the wild intergalactic battle, though it’s a little unclear who knows what and when. So many layers to everything. And who are the good guys? It’s something you have to decide for yourself.

While very different from the first one, this second installment is still a fast-paced, sci-fi, psychological, adventure thriller. It’s got a little something for everyone: romance, action, mystery, futuristic technology, and more. If that sounds good, pick this one up!

I’m so grateful to the author and Love Books Tours for including me in this tour!

Question of the Day

What would you do if a robot became the leader of the world?

Answer of the Day

I’d be afraid because AI does not seem like it’s that good. And, really, my husband, who has actually studied computers and AI, says we’re all overreacting a little. But I always think it’s good to have a healthy fear of the unknown – which is why I have anxiety.

About the Author

Born in Hartlepool in 1970. I have lived in Langley Park, Durham, England up until 2006, where I moved to Northern Ireland married my wife, Monica in 2007 (still very much happily married).

I love reading fantasy, science fiction, action & adventure and thrillers. Favourite authors are Stephen King, James Herbert, Clive Cussler, Dean Koontz, Audrey Niffenegger and Neil Gaiman. I am a big Marvel Comics fan and enjoy watching movies. Favourite tv shows are Blake’s 7, Babylon 5 and Star Trek.

In April 2020 my love of fantasy and science fiction inspired me to write my first book – Double Jeopardy, the first book in my mirror wars series – which contains nods to some of my favourite authors, films and TV shows that have ignited my imagination over the years. I also used my “experiences” of being a twin to help me write about evil doppelgangers!
