Explore The Science of Love, Deleted

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This has been one of my favorite books this year, and it is just as good – if not better – as an audiobook.

This is an impossible love story…

Cooper came home unexpectedly early that day. The day her world collapsed. The day she heard things she shouldn’t have. Saw things she shouldn’t have.

Now Cooper is running away. Driving recklessly. Blindly. A broken heart spiraling out of control after witnessing an earth-shattering scene.

Then Cooper discovers the website. Speaks to the doctors. Can they help her? Can they give her the treatment she desperately wants? Yes, they can. They can do something mind-blowing.

They can surgically erase her love for her husband Jethro.

Only what appears to be the perfect solution sets off a devastating chain of events not only for Jethro and herself. But one also involves their teenage son Daniel in ways she can’t imagine.

A life-shattering moment. A rash decision. An easy solution. This isn’t just a love story. Not when a heart isn’t just broken, it is irreversibly silenced.

This is an impossible love story.

My Thoughts

For some reason, a lot of people are really snobby about audiobooks and don’t think it’s real reading. That opinion, is for one, very ableist. Lots of people – those with sight impairments and various neurodivergences – benefit greatly from the proliferation of audiobooks. And I argue that audiobooks are an entirely different experience. Listening to the performance of a book versus reading it can be two completely different beautiful experiences.

The narrator of Love Deleted brings a rich, wonderful experience to the book, and I loved her interpretation of the different characters. The very well matched my original internal interpretation and I didn’t find any jarring new realities that I had to come to terms with. In the book, I always thought the interweaving of a podcast was a clever way of explaining some of the science. One of the issues with weighty science fiction or fantasy books is that sometimes writers get bogged down with how to explain things. I adored the authors decision to do it as a podcast. This particularly benefited from the audiobook format.

Another benefit of the audiobook format is the length of this book. Like many science fiction/fantasy-type books, this one is quite long. Many experienced audiobook listeners don’t listen to books at normal speed – which is something I’ve only learned in the past year. If you’re unaware, there are people out there listening to books at 3x speeds. I don’t know how they’re doing that, but I have gotten up to 2x speed sometimes. Because of some hearing and processing difficulties, I can’t listen to higher-pitched people’s voices that fast usually, and I don’t like to take away from the atmosphere of the book if I can avoid it.

Overall, the story is still amazing. You can actually find my original thoughts on that here. And I believe this story benefited greatly from an audiobook version. But I also enjoyed it immensely as a traditional book. So whatever format you choose, I absolutely think you should read this book. I am so grateful to the author and Love Books Tours for including me on this tour. I can’t wait to read whatever this author has for us next.

Who’s It For

The blurb says this book is an impossible love story, and that is absolutely true. So if you’re a hopeless romantic, buckle up, because you’re going to keep hoping throughout this book right up until the final pages. If you enjoy drama, tense family dynamics, romance, and light science fiction, this is a book for you. However, it also deals with serious mental health issues, including depression and suicidal ideation, as well as infertility.

Content Warning: Depression, suicidal ideation/attempt, cheating, infertility, adult situations, sexual assault

About the Author

Paul Indigo is a British author who loves page-turners. It doesn’t have to be a thriller. It can be anything, he just wants to feel that desperate urge to turn the page. And if it grabs him on the first page…

or the first paragraph…

or the first sentence…

Well! All the better.

He worked in the television industry for many years. However, though he’s worked with words all his life, he’s only recently decided to do something with it.

He lives on the English coast and loves sea and nature reserve walks whenever he gets the opportunity. He also loves to wake early, long before the rest of the world has caught up with him.
