This has been the year of exploring thrillers for me. But I’m a fuzzy sweater, Hallmark movie girl at heart and these books are awesome. I only started reading holiday books last year, and I’m here for these ones! Take a delightful, holiday vacation to the Cotswolds to see “The Gingerbread Christmas Village,” and warm your heart right up this holiday season.
About the Book
Harriet is facing her second Christmas on her own since her husband walked out. With little child support, she’s struggling to manage financially, not helped when daughter Sara is invited to a posh birthday party and needs a new outfit.
When Owen, a passionate environmentalist and popular blogger, overhears Harriet bemoaning her situation, he challenges her to only buy second-hand until Christmas, and Harriet accepts. What she doesn’t know is that Owen is reporting her journey anonymously to all his followers…
Though the challenge is proving successful, it’s not without its troubles. Can Harriet really keep her children and bank balance happy this way? As Owen’s feelings toward Harriet deepen, he begins to panic about the blog – how will she react when she finds her life documented online?
Foxmore’s inaugural Christmas fayre is fast approaching and will either be the toast of the town – or the downfall of their relationship.
A festive romance with buckets of heart, for fans of Holly Martin, Jessica Redland and Sue Moorcroft.
My Thoughts
I don’t think I’ve ever read a romance where the protagonist was a 60-something-year-old lady. And even more sure I haven’t read such a wide age gap in this direction. But this was so sweet and adorable. I enjoyed the story and think it would be a fantastic addition to your holiday reading! I’m always excited when I get new experiences in a book, and this was that. Even better when I enjoy it!! Though realizing 65 doesn’t seem as old as it once did is a little disconcerting.
If you love cozying up with those Hallmark movies where the little guy is fighting to win, this is the book for you. I always love small-town stories because the cast of characters is so lovely. I usually end up loving everyone with a few standouts. Fern is an absolute delight, as is Patrick! I really love how Fern brings the world of social media into focus for the older folks.
The story was a little slow in parts, but that mirrored the atmospheric small-town winter scenery. Life is slow in these places, not like the big city. And the author seamlessly weaved gentle humor into the dialogue and narrative in an absolutely beautiful way.
I’m so pleased to have been chosen to be part of this amazing Christmas Extravaganza experience! I’m so grateful to the author and Love Books Tours for the opportunity. Catch my review of the third and final book on the Christmas Extravaganza Tour on Nov. 16!
Who’s It For
This is for Hallmark, GAC, and all other Christmas movie lovers. It’s especially good if you love all the small-town David and Goliath-type stories.
Question of the Day
Have you ever built a gingerbread house? If not, what sort of holiday traditions are your day? Any winter holiday you might celebrate!
