I very rarely have the opportunity to read a book in one day anymore, but I definitely used the opportunity to do so with “Call Her Janie” this past weekend. And what a great way to spend a day of rest!
About the Book
A scintillating romantic thriller with a shocking twist
Lizzie was obsessed with chasing her dream of being the only female executive at her New York City marketing firm. Driven by the loss of her parents, she wanted to succeed and make them proud. Focused, hard-working, and passionate about her career, she refused to be distracted.
Gray Stone, a handsome billionaire, and Lizzie’s boss, won her over with his charm. He was the perfect gentleman, treating Lizzie like a queen. When a plus sign appeared on her pregnancy test, Gray’s true colours were revealed, and her life was turned upside down.
Moving to Southport, NC, to reconnect with her brother was her only option to mend her broken heart and leave her past behind. Her life had unraveled at the seams, and she blamed herself, desperate to find forgiveness.
Filled with revenge and hatred, someone lurking in the town had a different plan, and their end game was Lizzie’s last breath. Will Lizzie find the contentment she is looking for, or will she die trying?
My Thoughts
I’ll be honest, when faced with the genre “romantic thriller” I had no idea what to expect. And most of the way through the book, I was still a little confused. A few things happened that made me sort of, kind of think “thriller.” But only barely. But I was totally entrenched in the romance and the seduction and the beauty of the story at that point. And then the thriller part took off like a shot. And wow. Will I pick up a book next time it says romantic thriller? Absolutely. Will I also pick up a book next time it has S.R. Fabrico’s name on it? Also, absolutely! I have read a LOT of great books this year, and this is one of the best and most thrilling ones I’ve read recently. One of the top two! I’ve been having a good reading month!
I don’t want to spoil anything, but the romance, the intrigue the suspense – wow! I was hooked from the beginning and needed to know what was going to happen! The only really disappointing thing about the book was that there was a bit of a cliffhanger and I realized at the end that there will be a second book. But really, I like finding out that books I love will have a second book. So that was a mixed blessing there. I always enjoy finding out that I get to enjoy characters I’ve come to love for more time.
I really enjoyed the relationships built in this story. The romantic, the friendships, and the familial relationships were all strong and beautiful. Sometimes, authors are great at one type of relationship, but not others, but Fabrico built them all wonderfully. Additionally, she built lovely secondary characters. I adored Helen, Lizzie’s boss, and friend, as well as Randy and Renee, her brother and sister-in-law. I look forward to seeing all of them again and seeing how all of these relationships blossom. I also enjoyed the beautiful town she built. I, too, am a huge fan of Gilmore Girls and appreciated the reference (I’ll stop there so I avoid any real spoilers).
I am so grateful to the author and Love Books Tours for including me on this tour, and I look forward to reading more by Ms. Fabrico. I’m definitely keeping an eye out for the sequel to this one!
Who’s It For
Anyone who enjoys romance and thrillers will enjoy this book. It is only mildly spicy, but there are a lot of adult situations that make it inappropriate for younger or sensitive audiences. There is a lot of suspense, mystery, and drama, which makes it a quick, intense read.
Content Warnings: Adult Situations, Adult Language, Kidnapping, Violence, Cheating, Relationship Violence, Child Neglect, Pregnancy Loss, Stillbirth, Pregnancy Struggles/Infertitily, Parent Loss, Stalking,
