This is a beautifully unique love story unlike any I’ve read before.
About the Book
Derek Worthington has neglected the personal relationships to those closest to him and compromised his morals to gain wealth and power. After surviving a brain aneurysm, Derek begins to have vivid recurring visions of a group of somewhat familiar people from a different place in time. He tries to pass them off as mere dreams, but the constant visions intrude relentlessly into his daily life. After undergoing a past life regression, he gains total recall of his past life as Charles Richardson, a poor Black man who died in the 1940s. As Derek digs deeper into his life as Charles, he discovers unexpected connections that threaten to disrupt all he has known.
My Thoughts
You will start out not liking Derek, and I’m pretty sure you are supposed to. If you do like him, I don’t think I’d like you very much. Just saying. But, he gets a heck of a redemption arc (sorry for the bit of a spoiler there) and the trajectory is route is one of the most intriguing and interesting ones I’ve read yet. The author takes us on a journey of past-life exploration that helps impact the main character’s life in ways he never could have imagined.
With a blending of very different lifestyles and personalities, lessons that we could all stand to remember, and hints of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” the author weaves a tale reminding us not to take anything or anyone for granted in our lives. While the story is incredibly moving and beautiful, it can be hard to read at times. The main character is a hard unlikable character at times and there are elements of medical trauma, racism, war, death, infidelity, and other mature themes. But overall it is a sweet tale of love overcoming seemingly unsurmountable odds and souls that belong together finding their way back to each other in unique and beautiful ways. If you can prepare yourself for serious topics, it’s a book you will be glad you read.
I am so grateful to the author and Love Books Tours for including me on this tour and I look forward to reading more by this author.
